We all know about the famous cricketer Virat Kohli. He has been in the limelight for a while now. It is his love for his game which makes him a more interesting character.

Virat Kohli was born and brought up in Delhi. He started his career by getting into the Indian team as an under 19 skipper and then he achieved victory for India at the 2008 World Cup, held in Malaysia. That match was the turning point in his life as he became an overnight teen star.


Later he made his debut for India in August 2008 at a match held in Sri Lanka. He had to play the role of an opener as both the main players i.e., Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar were ruled out because of the injuries they had. He kept up the expectations of all and led towards victory.

Then at Australia in 2009, he showed his tremendous batting skills at the Emerging Players Tournament and due to him, India was able to win that tournament. A new batting star revealed that day. Thereafter, he started getting bigger opportunities in his cricket career.

Career

He was the first Indian to score a century on World Cup debut. He hit a ton against Bangladesh in India’s first game of the World Cup, 2011. There was no stopping them. He went on giving big contributions and led to a successful World Cup campaign for India.

There were many ups and downs too for Kohli in this journey of success. His test match career ahead was not that good for a while but, his ODI graph was shining towards sky-high limits. He is the fastest Indian who score 1k, 3k and 4k run in ODIs and he is also the fastest cricketer to score 10 ODI centuries. Virat Kohli was the highest ODI run-scorer for India for three consecutive years including 2010, 2011 and 2012. He then won the ICC ODI Cricketer of the year award, 2012.

He continued with his great shots and won the title of the “most consistent batsmen” of the ICC Champions Trophy, 2013.

When Dhoni was injured in the first Test, Kohli represented India in his absence and then he was named as India’s next Test Captain. More success came when India went up to No. 1 spot in the ICC Test rankings due to Virat Kohli’s amazing batting form. Kohli fought like a man in the World Twenty20, 2016, playing important knocks right away in the tournament. His abilities are unbeatable. He played in 2017 for India in those matches and led India towards amazing victories.

Virat Kohli has again proved that when it comes to batting, he is a star. Recently, he has scored the fifth double century of his Test match career. He played against Sri Lanka on the third day of the Nagpur Test. In the first century, he played with Cheteshwar Pujara and at the second hit century, he played with Rohit Sharma and this pair created magic over the cricket ground.

This made him the first captain to score ten international hundreds, straight in a year. He has now surpassed Sunil Gavaskar. Kohli now has recorded his name for a number of international cricket centuries in a year. He also has 10 centuries across the 3 formats. He has surpassed the South African skipper, Graeme Smith and the Australian captain, Ricky Ponting who is now on the score of 9 centuries.
